About This Dog

Alfie's ideal home

Alfie is a handsome Collie with a gentle, quiet character and a lot of love to give. A sensitive chap at times, he can find new experiences overwhelming and will often seek reassurance from his human pals. However, if you give him the support he needs and allow him to take each step at his own pace, it doesn’t take long for Alfie to start building in confidence. He’s hopeful to find patient adopters, who will allow him plenty of time to settle into his new routine, without too much pressure or expectation. Alfie is a real ‘foodie’ and highly values his mealtimes and chews. He can find it challenging when people approach him whilst he is eating, or if they try and take food items away from him. He requires a family who can implement management around feeding routines and ensure to always swap items if needing to take something from him. Our Training Team can chat to successful applicants more about this. Due to his timid nature and his worries around food being taken from him, we feel that Alfie would best be suited to a family where the youngest members are of secondary-school age and able to understand his body language. He is selective when it comes to socialising with other dogs and can be apprehensive around larger breeds, or those that are bigger than him. Alfie will need to be the only pet at home but could have well-suited walking buddies.

Could you be Alfie's perfect match?

Alfie prefers a gentler approach to being handled and cared for. Building his friendship won’t take too long, but he’ll become increasingly affectionate once he’s cemented a strong bond with you. Once Alfie is settled at home, his playful side will begin to shine, and he’ll enjoy interacting with you over a game of fetch or tug. His favourite pastimes include relaxing on his own with a chew, sniffy walks in rural areas, paddling in the water, playtime in the garden, and spending quality time with his most-loved people. If you would like more information about adopting any of our dogs, or you are considering a variety of dogs and would like our team’s help to find your pawfect match, we would love you to visit us at our rehoming centre to chat with us in person. We are open between 12pm and 4pm every day, except for Wednesdays and Fridays when we are closed.
