About This Dog for Adoption

Joan's ideal home

Meet Joan – one of the sweetest ladies you’ll ever meet! Joan is a three-year-old Border Collie with a gentle, affectionate nature once she knows you, though she can be a little shy at first. She is deaf, so she’s looking for kind, patient adopters who can take things slowly and help her build confidence in her new surroundings. Joan would thrive in a calm, quiet home, away from busy roads or noisy environments, as she can be sensitive to her surroundings and finds heavy traffic overwhelming. A rural or quiet suburban setting with peaceful walking routes would suit her best. She’s still working on feeling comfortable in the car, so walks from home are ideal for now. Joan is receiving ongoing training for this, and our Training & Behaviour Team will support her new family to continue building her confidence. Because of her sensitive nature, Joan would be happiest in a home with calm, secondary school-aged children. She’s selective with other dogs but has made friends with a few calm, steady companions. While she might enjoy a walking buddy, she’ll need to be the only pet at home. A secure garden is a must.

Could you be Joan's perfect match?

Joan is a wonderfully sweet soul looking for a calm, understanding home where she can feel safe and truly thrive. She enjoys a slow, predictable routine with gentle fuss from people she trusts. While she is an affectionate lady, she does appreciate regular breaks from handling, as she can feel conflicted about physical contact. Her perfect day includes short walks, quiet potters, and long naps. Once settled, she’s content being left for a few hours and will happily curl up in her favourite cosy spot.

Border Collie Puppy Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Border Collie.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Border Collie Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
