Poppy's ideal home

Poppy needs a home as the only pet and where any children are over 16 because of her nervous nature. We have very limited history for her and cannot guarantee she is house trained. She will need a quiet home in a quiet area and likely a few meetings at the centre before going home for good.

Could you be Poppy's perfect match?

Poppy is a lucky girl who was rescued from a terrible living situation where she was being denied food. She had to spend more than six months in kennels before finding her chance with Dogs Trust but now she's safe and well fed and she'll never be neglected again. Poppy is understandably a little unsure about her current situation but she's warming to us all and we can see how gentle and loving her nature is. She doesn't enjoy walking around the centre when she's feeling overwhelmed but she'll happily settle in an office with people. We would advise that her adopters give her lots of time to settle before attempting walks, and to stay close to home initially as she may refuse to move if she's not comfortable in her surroundings. We have no doubt that Poppy will settle into her new life eventually when she has built trust and a bond with her new family, but this may take some time and she shouldn't be rushed. Poppy isn't really interested in making friends with other dogs right now, but she will have an investigative sniff before avoiding them. Her ideal family will be patient, considerate and willing to help Poppy build her confidence at her pace. She deserves a loving home where she never has to live in fear again.

Border Collie Puppy Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Border Collie.

View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy
Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Border Collie Owners website
Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website - especially if that phone number is in one of the advert images
